Kisses for Haley
Haley Stewart is a 9yr old little girl that was diagnosed with an Arteriovenous Malformation in her brain.
An AVM is a tangle of abnormal and poorly formed blood vessels (arteries and veins). They have a higher rate of bleeding than normal vessels. AVMs can occur anywhere in the body. Brain AVMs are of special concern because of the damage they cause when they bleed. They are very rare and occur in less than 1% of the general population. AVMs that occur in the coverings of the brain are called dural avms."
Unfortunately Haley has been deemed inoperable by 3 different Dr.'s at Sick Kids Hospital. There is one Dr. in London, ON that has a different procedure where he can try to remove the feeder veins which may stop the AVM from growing. In order to do so Haley is looking at a minimum of 3 separate surgeries and a 50/50 chance of ending up paralyzed down the left side of her body. Not to mention years of rehabilitation. This too will incur a lot of out of the pocket expenses for Sherry as she does not have medical coverage through her place of employment.
The other option is the Mayo Clinic in the USA. They have a team of Dr.'s that have had a lot of success with the total removal of Dural AVM's and are willing to look at Haley's case. The consultation alone ranges between $8,000-$10,000 not to mention the actual cost of the surgery should this clinic be able to help Haley. If these Dr.'s are able to help, Haley is then looking at a long road ahead of her with rehab and the possibility of having to stay in the US for up to 1 year. This would mean a tremendous financial burden on Sherry on top of the stress and heartache of watching her daughter go through such a high risk operation.
We are in the process of working with Dominic from The Rockpile to put on 4 all ages benefit concerts for Haley on August 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th at 5555A Dundas St. W., Toronto ON, from 2pm - 11 pm to raise funds to help cover the costs.
We have several bands that have offered to donate their time to perform that evening, as well as, Northern Lights Promo has brought in a variety of merchandise with either Haley Rocks or Kisses for Haley written on them that they will be selling to help raise as much as we can.
We are hoping that with everyone's help we will be able to get Haley the help she so desperately needs!!
